Children’s Medicaid & CHIP: How Do They Work?
CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program) and Medicaid both offer dental coverage for children under 18 years old. Medicaid also offers coverage for adults, but it isn’t as comprehensive as children’s benefits.
In Texas specifically, you can receive plans through DentaQuest, MCNA Dental, or United Healthcare Dental, with most of them having yearly maximums of about $500. This means that they’ll cover about $500 worth of dental services for your child throughout the year. However, even if your child meets this maximum, they can still receive coverage for additional services they need.
Dental Services Covered Under CHIP & Children’s Medicaid Plans
Children’s Medicaid and CHIP plans typically cover the following dental services from a CHIP dentist in Plano:
- Two dental checkups and cleanings, scheduled six months apart.
- Necessary diagnostic imaging (X-rays).
- Cavity fillings, dental crowns, and other restorative services.
